Aylsham FC U12 v Scole United FC U12, Youngs Park

A fresh and chilly morning as Aylsham FC U12 welcomed Scole United FC U12 in the Norfolk Combined Youth Football League Premiership this morning (Sunday 21st January) in the only game that didn’t succumb to the weather at Youngs Park.

Scole kicked off and Aylsham immediately pressed to win the ball and mount a charge down the left flank. The first opportunity fell to the home side as Alfie broke forward driving an effort that the keeper saved well with his right foot. Aylsham continued on the offensive and took the lead in the 2nd minute. Tyler and Josh combined well down the left before playing the ball back to Adam who sent in a deep cross that the keeper pushed away. Charlie retrieved the loose ball finding Jude in space, lifting the ball over the keeper and into the net from outside the box.

Aylsham doubled their lead in the 6th minute after Tyler and Alfie pressed high to cause panic in the Scole defence resulting in a hurried clearance. The loose ball was seized upon by Charlie who took a great first touch and shifted the ball to his right before striking a blistering shot across the keeper into the net from the edge of the area.

Four minutes later a deep corner from Josh was recovered by Alfie who lifted the ball back over but saw his centre hit the top of the bar and behind as Aylsham continued to pressurise the visitors. In the 10th minute Aylsham extended their lead further with a well worked goal. Alfie forced a hurried clearance from a Scole defender that Charlie controlled well before spotting Alfie’s well timed run, slotting a perfect through ball that the striker finished powerfully with a left foot shot.

Scole has their first real sight of goal from the restart, the visiting striker flashing a header wide of Loz’s goal. Aylsham pushed forward again and Ollie and Jude linked up well to create a chance for Tyler but his shot went just wide from the left hand side. Three minutes later Alfie tried his luck from just inside the area after beating his marker but flashed his effort narrowly past the far post. Scole had a good chance after a long ball sent their striker away and, while he reached the ball just before Loz and lifted the ball towards goal, Ollie positioned himself to put in a great defensive header that Loz caught brilliantly, keeping the Aylsham clean sheet intact.

Jack entered the fray in the 17th minute, replacing Tyler on the left and was straight into the action forcing a hurried clearance that fell to Josh who connected well just outside the area but struck it inches over the bar. A lovely one-two between Josh and Jack worked the ball to Alfie who was crowded out by three Scole defenders just before he could get his shot away. The same three players combined well again after Jude won the ball back but Josh’s goalbound effort was deflected wide. Jack’s corner was flicked on at the near post by Jude to Adam who took a great first touch but poked his shot agonisingly wide.

Josh won the ball in the centre of midfield and moved the ball quickly out to Jack who played a lovely one-two with the advancing Adam. Jack whipped in a dangerous first-time cross that the keeper did brilliantly to punch away with Alfie and Charlie looking to get a telling touch to finish a flowing move. After a good clearance from Archie, Josh and Jack combined to find Jude in space but he saw his first-time shot rise up and over the bar.

There was a welcome return to action for Jaiden after injury as he came on for Jude in the 23rd minute. Alfie has another opportunity to shoot after a good throw from Adam on the left but the keeper made a smart save to push the ball round the post. Aylsham continued in the ascendancy with most of the action taking place in the Scole half but the hosts couldn’t add to their tally, the score 3-0 at half time after a dominant first half performance.

Aylsham kicked off the second half and were straight on the offensive again with a flowing four man move creating a chance for Jack to cut inside on the left and bring another good save from the busy Scole keeper. Scole changed formation to keep more men behind the ball and defend deeply giving very little space to the Aylsham forward line. Jaiden tried his luck from distance but fired just wide of the target. Aylsham were camped in the Scole half for long periods and another good save from the visiting keeper kept out Alfie’s shot and a tremendous block prevented Charlie from scoring from the rebound after reacting quickest. Charlie tested the keeper again moments later from a tight angle, but a diving save kept the ball out. From Jack’s corner Alfie connected well but saw his effort blocked on the line as Scole defended bravely.

Archie put in a solid tackle inside the Aylsham half to halt a Scole break finding the returning Jude who threaded a lovely through ball into Alfie’s path and only another great save prevented a certain Aylsham goal. Charlie put a great cross-field ball to Jack after Ollie showed great strength to snuff out another Scole attack. Jack cut inside and spotted Alfie’s run picking him out on the edge of the area but another brave stop kept it out as the game entered the 40th minute. Tyler came on at right back replacing Archie and he was straight into the action starting another flowing move involving Charlie and Jude before Alfie forced another great save from the keeper as the home side continue to dominate. A long ball over the top almost caught out the Aylsham defence but Loz came off his line quickly to win the race to the ball to clear. The home side immediately went back on the attack with Jude shooting over from distance after another crisp passing move. A couple of minutes later Jude had another opportunity and hit the target with a curling effort but the keeper was equal to it to save confidently.

Aylsham changed things around with Jaiden and Jack dropping back with Ollie and Adam moving forwards with 15 minutes left. Scole were defending very deeply at this stage and the keeper was called into action again keeping out another powerful drive from Alfie. The game seemed to open up with Scole getting into advanced positions but the home backline stood strong with Jack racing back after an Aylsham move broke down to put in a strong challenge to win the ball back. This led to a crisp attack that only ended as Josh fired just over from the edge of the area. Josh was in the thick of things receiving a great pass from Charlie to bring a good save from the keeper and from Jack’s corner Josh rose well but directed his header narrowly wide. Ollie tried his luck from distance after another slick passage of play but his effort flashed wide.

A flurry of substitutions from both sides took place as the game entered its final stages. The last chance of the game fell to Aylsham after a quick break but Charlie’s effort was well saved. A dominant display by Aylsham fully deserving of the three points with only a resolute and dogged opposition and a fantastic goalkeeping performance keeping the score down. The final score of Aylsham 3 Scole 0 maintaining the hosts clear lead at the top of the Norfolk Combined Youth Football League Premiership following their 11th straight league victory.
